Mom and Dad, it might be time for an intervention. We are concerned about the choice of cabinets. OAK has not been put in a house since 1990 that I am aware of. It is the number one wood being removed from houses during remodels and cabinet refinishing. Most people are doing all they can to rid their houses of oak-- much like it's comtemporary shrub the nasty "fitzer," which also was big for some reason in the 80s.
The concern of alder being soft is most likely a non-issue. I've never heard anyone be concerned over the hardness or softness of a wood used for their kitchen cabinets. Wood floors, on the other hand, are often decided based on hardness and durability and in relation to traffic flow. I/we (the kids old enough to know better) are afraid that you will date and cheapen your nice house with oak cabinetry. There is a reason everyone moved to alder, knotty alder, maple, etc.
Please think this through and don't make us bring someone from HGTV channel to get you professional help. :)
Your concerned kids.

Bird's Prom
Although i missed Bird's graduation and seeing her shimmy for Rexburg by one week, i did get to be there to help her get ready and take pictures for her for prom. Little events like this are what make it hard to live away from home. But i was glad i got to be there for this at least. Good thing i was there, cuz we hadn't given Mom her camera yet, and Bird couldn't find hers. Well, Bird looked super cute, and so did her date Clint.
I also decided to throw in a few pics for fun to help you all see what goes on getting ready for prom, in case you forgot how it went. :)
So Clint dropped Bird off to get ready and told her he'd be back in less than an hour. HAHA I was up at Had's dad's house, and Bird called in a panic and said "Get here and help me! They're coming in less than an hour!" Me, Amber, and Bird all had our hands in her hair, flyin around trying to get her ready before they came. Somehow, we pulled it off (mainly Amber did) and she only made him wait in the living room for a couple minutes.
Remember the awkward part where you have to pin his rose on?....Don't worry, it took Bird forever and you can tell by his face, he felt awkward. Hahah
I just thought they both looked cute in this picture, oh and it looks like Bird has an extremely long pointer finger. :) (Bird's corsage is on a slap bracelet. It was pretty sweet.)

Here's the cool car they rented for the night to come pick up their dates in, with a chauffer and everything. Fun times for all involved.

For Ang
Jeff took this video of me when I was reading one of the Twilight books. I just thought I'd put it on here in memory of Ang trying to get me to do something with her and my answer, always the same: One more page.

Memorial Day in Clifton
We started at about 10:30am in the Clifton Cemetary.
Auntie M dished out the Sant books, and everyone sat down to hear some stories. It was a little bit different from the years before because we started at Grandma and Grandpa's tombstone instead of John & Mary Shaw Sant. Uncle Neil started and they kept giving teasers of stories that they said, come back to Grandma's 100th birthday to hear the rest.
Uncle Heber told a really cool story that Ive never heard before of being in downtown SLC and walking out near the church office building and Harold B. Lee whom was the prophet of the time, just fell in step with him, and said, I think you know my mom, and Pres. Lee said who is she, and then, he told her Sadie Sant, and he said, I do know her! She sang at my missonary farewell & homecoming, how is she doing, who did she marry etc. Heebs said he walked with him a couple of blocks, and that it was in the time before security guards and it was just the two of them walking together. Pres Lee told Heebs to tell grandma and grandpa hello-and Heebs said it was kind of cool to go home, and say, Mom I talked to the prophet and he said to tell you hello. I thought that was a awesome story.
We spent about a hour and a half in the cemetary and then headed to Dayton to eat at the park there. I'm not sure why we didn't do the Clifton place like we always do, but it's all good. It was a potluck with lots and lots of salad, and since Guts reads this, I'll add that your potato salad was a D-lish, and also a big hit!
I'd also check on the paparika color thing. :)
The weather was super weird, rainy until 10:30am-then sunny til about noon, then off and on drizzly until we left. They also took some video interviews of peeps on Grandma, with memories, and just questions they asked to help you get started. Things like that. I wish i'd known it was video, I may have tried to look cuter. Nugs.

latest picture of the house
This is the latest picture I took with my new camera. Thanks to all of you, it is really a great camera and I appreciate you all getting together and getting it. The electricans, plumbers, and heating will be done by next weekend. The roofing will be done by then too. We spend a lot of time out their just enjoying the peace and quiet. We love it already. Can't wait for you all to see it.

Brientz's First Dance Recital
Brientz had her first dance recital today. I was baby-sitting for Ang & Josh, so I didn't see the actual preformance but I got to go to her dress rehearsal. Wow. What can I say wow. I took some pics of Brientz and a video of one of her dances. Brientz had FIVE costume changes for a 2 hour program. Here is how the cute stuff looked. She's completely photogenic. Love it!!
Mini-Kenny (Dad)
I was at Dustin and Alissa's today and Alissa is cleaning out a bunch of totes to prepare for the new babe and found a bunch of cabbage patch kids that her mom (Janet) had saved for her. One of them, looked a lot like Clark Joey, but he's not important. She then showed me this one.
It's a mini-me for my dad. Please note the sweet flannel shirt that my dad has a twin shirt of, on the cabbage patch kid. :-)
Enjoy!

Bird
Bird did it, she graduated. This was after, in the field house, with a thousand or so other peops, with all of us sweating to death. So I will tell ya cuz I am sure Bird won't that the ropes she has on means she graduated with honors (you probs all knew that) but I am guessin youdidn't know that she graduated with a 3.8 I was pretty impressed. Did anyone else graduate with a GPA higher than that in our fam? So good work to Bird. She looked real cute.
So this is Bird right after they said her name. Each person would come to this spot after they said their name and do some pose or something. Well Bird decided to shimmy, yes shimmy. It was pretty stinkin funny. We were taking pictures so it was through our camera's that we saw her doing it, and all of were like, did she just shimmy. NIce. Any ways, it was pretty funny.

Bird at State track. Here she is jumpin over the bar for high jump. It was fun havin her there and getting to watch her, even if she didn't do as good as she wanted. PLus, state track was always the bomb, cuz you mostly just get to play.
I also wanted to tell everyone about Bird. So I don't know if you guys heard about their "Senior Day". Well at it they did a bunch of activities that were supposed to bring them closer and then at the end of it, they all sat in a circle and it was like an open mic/testimony meeting (not really testimony but i am guessin that is what it was mostly like). Any ways, at this open mic then I guess A LOT of people got up and told Bird how much of a difference she had made in their lives and how she was so nice. Peops after peops got up and said this to her. Everyone was bawling and especially Bird, who happened to be sitting where the mic was, so they all got up and then would be saying it right to her face pretty much cuz she was sitting right there. I thought it was pretty dang cool. Peops that Bird never really talked too got up and said stuff like "Jamie you said hi to me when we were sophomores and I have never forgotten it". So then I was looking at Birds yearbook and started reading all the stuff that peops wrote, which Bird knew I was doing and didn't care (I remember not wanting to let anyone see what peops wrote in mine and some of you guys doing the same) and every single person in there wrote something about how Bird has influenced their life, or how she is such an example to them or that she made a difference in their life, or what an awesome personality she has, how positive she is, how funny she is, how nice she is to everyone, and tons of peops commented on how they will never forget senior day and how everyone went and around and thanked her or said something to her. Even all the boys wrote about this kind of stuff, which I thought was pretty cool because it seems like boys don't usually say that kind of stuff to girls. Well I just wanted to let you all know that stuff about Bird because I think its awesome and I think that she is a great example. I wish I could look back at High School and know that people thought that kind of stuff about me and know that that is how they were going to remember me by. They didn't just only they that stuff, they also told her how cute and pretty and beautiful she is, how funny she is how she is one of their favorite people (some peops said in their top 25 lists of fav/funny people) and stuff like that, even boys said all this stuff. So Bird, good work, you are an awesome example and I look up to you lots and I just wanted you to know that and all of you other peops to know that we have a sister that people think that about, because I think its awesome. I love ya Bird.

Dustin tryin' out the blog
Hey peeps, I thought I'd try this out since I've never blogged a minute of my life. The new house is looking good. Still wish it was in St. George or Clifton, but Hibbard is almost as cool.
I agree with all of Ang's comments about mom. Mom is good people. She was always bailing us out of something. I think it's safe to say that mom has earned many a 4.0for every grade level as she's helped us get our "A's." I even remember her running me up to the Ricks College bookstore to find Cliff Notes for book reports I had due the next day. For all I know, she probably read the cliff notes and then dictated the report to me as I wrote it down, while complaining the entire time. (Note to Bud, Linds: None of us older kids ever complained or back-talked nearly as much as any of you).
The only beef I have with mom is that she never figured out how to get me to cut my mini-mullet before it got immortalized in pictures. Alissa is so proud every time she sees those pics. She especially likes the ones where I bleached the bottom portion. Now that was the definition of cool!

Oh Happy Day-Mom & Dad-this is for you
Idaho grocery store chain coming to Utah
May 15th, 2009 @ 10:07pm
By Keith McCord
SALT LAKE CITY -- In a few months, a major new player will be coming to Utah to compete for your grocery dollars. Winco Foods, based in Boise, has announced plans to expand to the Utah market, bringing with it low prices and several hundred new jobs.
Construction is moving briskly at Winco Foods initial store sites in West Valley and Midvale. These two stores, about 94,000 square feet in size, will be open this fall, and construction will begin later at a site in Roy, with a scheduled opening for spring of 2010.
Winco has been around since the mid-1960s. It currently has 66 stores in five western states. The company has been looking at Utah for some time.
"Really, it's filled with people we consider to be our core customer. Winco's core customer tends to be young, growing families, living on a budget," said Mike Read, spokesman for Winco Foods.
Winco stores carry all major brands of groceries, meats, produce and bulk food products in a warehouse-type format. The stores are open 24 hours a day.
Though not yet a household name in Utah, Winco says it's ready to play in a very competitive grocery arena. "We consider ourselves to be the area's supermarket low price leader wherever we operate," Read said.
"Utah has always been a very competitive marketplace with a good mix of chain and independents, and this is just going to stir the pot even more," said Jason Olsen, president of the Utah Food Industry Association.
Winco is employee-owned, which means each worker receives company stock as part of their pension every year. It's a system that's produced extreme loyalty among the 12,000 employees, and hundreds more will soon join them in Utah.
"Most of these stores will open with approximately 200 employees, and all of them, with the exception of store management and department management, will be hired locally," Read said.
It's yet another positive boost to Utah's economy and employment picture.

MOM, YOU DA BOMB
Mom,
I just thought I better let you know how great you are. You are the most selfless person I know. Other than building yourself a house, I don't know of much that you do that is for yourself. After hearing those stories we were telling the other night about how rotten we were as teenagers, I think you may deserve a medal. Plus you've been dealing with the teenagers for at least 20 years. Torch, and good job. Then there is the pregnancy thing, wow, how I hate being pregnant. I don't understand how you just kept signing up for it. It takes me about 4 years to forget how much I hated it. We won't even go into the delivery part because that is so horrific. But what about all the after crap from having a baby? Trying to get them to eat. Having your chest feel like it is going to explode. Never sleeping. That horrible fear of the first bowel movement, then the horrible act of actually having it. (sorry Cin and Lis) Plus taking care of all the rest of us at the same time. We all have you come and help us and we still feel like we are going to die. I honestly don't know how you could keep doing that and stay sane. I get that we are just a wussier group of peeps nowadays, but really, how did you even want to get up in the morning? Plus I gotta say, you always made our house feel like a home. Course for me I think I really appreciate now more than I did as a kid the fact that you made awesome food. You never made anything that tasted bad. But pretty much everything tasted good. That is quite the feat when the main food has to always be based with hamburger. Plus all the treats and goodies are always the best. Mom you taught all your girls that cooking is something that is feasible, and can be fun. Thank you for that. Plus I don't know if everybody else felt this way, but remember when we had some school project that had been assigned a month ago, and we waited until the last minute and then bawled about it that night. Mom always came along and saved the day. Plus not only did she do quite a few late night projects, she came along and always fixed the projects that we had already started and ruined. Whatever it was, if she was in our corner, we knew that it would turn out awesome. Thanks mom for fixing all my diasasters. Mom, I think I could go on forever as all these new topics come to my head that you always made better. This is already too long of a post, but I really want to let you know that you reqally are the bomb, and thank you for teaching all of your children, especially by example. I hope that someday I can be half the selfless mom that you are. THANKS MOM! We love you.

Thanks for the well wishes!
Hey Peeps,
I'm a little slow, ok a lot slow, but I just wanted to say thanks for all the well wishes, and prayers and all that jazz for when I had my surgery. I'm sure it was fun times for all. I'm doing pretty good, I feel like 1000 times better, and have had about 10 people that see me on a regular basis tell me that I sound like my old self again. I'm trying to figure out how I sounded, but pretty much think it was mostly just beasty. I don't rip people's heads off when they ask me questions, so, HOORAY!!
Here are some pics of the flowers that I got. The yellow and red/orange flowers are from Ang (Mom's DUP ladies LOVED Them!!), the White and pink are from Jean, the yellow are from my friend Jen, and the re-gifted one single rose is from Bird (ha-ha Birdlett), and the balloons are from Bird.
Seriously, Thanks again to everyone, especially mom and dad who had to cater to my every whim (I made dad pour my milk-fun stuff like that...)
